Learn how to create and administer multitenant databases
Background
For many Oracle database administrators, the move to Multitenant has appeared to be a daunting task which there has been little reason to undertake. Well, there is no option: in the current release, 21c, the previous non-CDB architecture we all know and love is no longer supported. However, apart from the necessity to convert moving forward, we (in common with many other DBAs) have found that the move is well worth making. Even for a small SE2 shop still running release 12.x, there are benefits to be gained from converting to Multitenant.
Do it now – before you have to.
Course Content
This workshop covers all the essentials of the multitenant architecture, providing detailed information on the components of a multitenant container database and its pluggable databases. It includes the key new features of 21c and 23c. You learn why and how to create and manage a multitenant container database and its pluggable databases. You practice creating, cloning, and plugging in pluggable databases, and converting from non-CDB to the multitenant environment. You learn how to create common and local users; manage encryption, security and audit; monitor and tune performance; perform backup and recovery operations with RMAN. Application and proxy pluggable databases are described but not covered in detail.
An additional workshop (optional, depending on time, interest, and pre-requisite knowledge) is included on configuring Data Guard in a Multitenant environment.
The course is presented in two blocks of four hours. These are lectures, demonstrations, and discussion. Exercises in building the environment will be done outside of class, either on the student’s own systems or using Linux environments provided by Skillbuilders. Demonstrations are done on both Linux and Windows.
