Introduction to Oracle Heterogeneous Services
Learn how to access non-Oracle databases from Oracle Database and how to configure ODBC Gateway.
Many sites run distributed systems: two (or more) databases communicating together. If they are all Oracle, no problem – just use database links. But what if some are, for example, SQL Servers or MySQL, or any other third party product? Then you need Heterogeneous Services (HS) gateways. These can be difficult and expensive to deploy. The ODBC HS gateway may be a simple, and cheap, alternative.
